At SA Adventure, the client comes first so your safety and enjoyment of your motorcycle adventure is our number one priority!
A brief itinerary is set out below, but we will send you a more detailed one once you have signed up for this exclusive tour. Be quick as we are limiting the number of places to 16!
We have breakfast at the hotel and then start heading for the Eastern Cape's wild coast. Bouwer leads us to our destination for the day, Mbotyi River Lodge. Situated at the mouth of the Mbotyi River and tidal estuary, its nestled between the rolling hills, lush tropical forest and the warm Indian Ocean. After exploring some beautiful off the beaten track areas such as the Mzintlava Pass and the Magwa tea plantation, we arrive at the lodge, with enough time to explore the beach or the nearby Fraser waterfall.
Today is an epic off-road riding day. We are heading towards the little village of Rhodes in the mountains of the Eastern Cape. We'll be riding up two bucket list South African passes today, the Pot River Pass and Naude's Nek Pass. Boasting arguably the most beautiful scenery and terrain for adventure biking in South Africa, we stop along the way to take it all in and take photos of some of the famed Ben Ten Eco Challenge sign boards. After a rewarding day of riding our motorcycles, we arrive at our accommodation for the next two nights in the mighty Drakensberg mountain range.
It's finally time to get out and explore on our bikes! We meet up at our hotel in the afternoon. It's set in the picturesque Kwa-Zulu Natal midlands in the Kamberg area near Nottingham Road.
The area is considered to be one of the most scenic in South Africa and has some amazing non technical gravel roads that we will be riding down and exploring on our motorcycles.
Bouwer and the SA Adventure team will introduce themselves in the tour briefing before dinner.
Today is a rest day, and it's yours to enjoy. You can relax at the lodge and read a book or try some fly fishing, or you can join us on an optional extra we have planned for you, which is taking a 90km outride lead by Bouwer around the area and down the infamous War Trail.
The trail, which is another bucket list pass in South Africa, gives wonderful views of Halstone Krans and the valley farmlands beyond. There are some interesting rock formations along the route, the most notable of which is ‘Bidstone’ at the bottom of the War Trail, which lends its name to the farm opposite where we will be having an incredible lunch of wood fired pizza and homemade apple pie.
After breakfast, we leave Rhodes via some beautiful gravel roads. Bouwer leads us through the Eastern Cape to the small village of Hogsback via some very scenic gravel back roads. Very exciting riding in this area. Situated in the Amathole Mountains, Hogsback and the Amatola Forest is often claimed, as J. R. R. Tolkien's inspiration for The Lord of the Rings. There is loads to do around the area, including visiting the Eco Shrine, but we have a little surprise on the cards for you this afternoon when we reach the lodge!
After brakefast Bouwer leads us out of the sleepy village of Hogsback and we head towards the Free State Province and the Gariep Dam. We traverse another pass today called Michel's Pass just outside Hogsback. It's a lesser-known pass and is only 17kms long, but it offers some great riding. We head through a couple of small villages today and also get to ride our motorcycles on the amazing Devils Bellow's. Words cannot describe the beauty this pass beholds. We end the day at the Gariep Dam which lies between the Free State, Eastern Cape and Northern Cape provinces. For the last night of our adventure, we will be staying on a farm situated on the banks of the Orange river, downstream of the dam wall where Bouwer will entertain us with some of his best stories and songs.
In the morning, after breakfast, Bouwer leads us up to the Gariep Dam Wall. Completed in 1971, is the largest dam in South Africa. 'Gariep' is an ancient San word for 'great water'. After we've explored a little we say our farewells to our travel companions, with whom we have shared this awe-inspiring South African adventure motorcycle tour with Bouwer Bosch and take home memories which will last a lifetime...
We guarantee that you will have the ride of your life on this tour and see places you didn't know existed in our beautiful country, South Africa!

The fact that this was my 5th tour with Tim Skelton and the SA Adventure crew, says it all.
I've done a few motorcycle tours with SA Adventure and I've never come away unsatisfied with the way they run their operation, from safety to good accommodation and food.
I have learnt so much over these motorcycle trips.
