Carlisleshoekspruit Pass motorcycle tour
The Itinerary

This amazing tour of the Eastern Cape's highlands is a must for any adventure motorcycle rider. The objective of the tour is to discover South Africa and show you some of the most beautiful high passes, including many from the famed Ben Ten Eco-Challenge.  We also want to support the South African tourism industry, which has been heavily hit by the Covid-19 crisis, by bringing much-needed cash flow to the small lodges we'll be staying at on our adventure.

Anyone with a valid motorcycle license is welcome to join the tour, there are some beautiful off-road sections. Support will be given to inexperienced riders by our tour crew. You ride at your own pace always and pillion's can jump into the support truck at any point!

A brief itinerary is set out below, but we will send you a more detailed one once you have signed up for the tour. Be quick as we are limiting the number of places to 16...

At SA Adventure, the client comes first so your safety and enjoyment of your motorcycle adventure is our number one priority!

Day Two (404km)

We have breakfast at the hotel and then start heading for the Eastern Cape's highlands. Our destination for the day is the little village of Rhodes.

The route for the day is via the Lower Lotheni road, the Lusipoort pass, and then on to three of the Ben Ten Eco-Challenge passes, Naude's Nek (2590m), Tiffindell-Tenahead Traverse (2720m), and lastly Carlisleshoekspruit Pass (2563m) before we descend into the historical village of Rhodes...

Day Three (180km)

Today is an epic off-road riding day and we will be heading out to Lady Grey where we will be staying for the evening.  Another two of the Ben Ten passes are going to get ticked off your bucket list today!  Volunteershoek (2581m) and Lundin's Nek (2590m) passes. As well as these two magnificent passes, we also tackle the infamous War Trail and Dulcie's Nek...

Day Four (286km)

Today we leave Lady Grey and head back to Rhodes. We ride via the Otto du Plessis Pass (2115m) and the Bastervoetpad Pass (2240m).  These are another two of the Ben Ten Eco-challenge passes, that makes seven out of the ten that we've ticked off! On our way back into Rhodes we will also ride over the Bokspruit Pass.

Day Five (347km)

For the last day of our adventure, we leave sleepy Rhodes behind us and head back over Naude's Nek and through the Potriver Pass, and head for Mount Currie in Kokstad, where we will end the tour in true SA Adventure style.   On the way to Mount Currie, we have a couple of bonus passes to traverse, Katkop, Moordenaars Nek, and the Swartmodder passes... It's going to be an epic adventure. Places are limited so make sure you don't miss out! Book your spot today and let the unknown become the adventure!

Day One (Arrival)

It's finally time to get out and explore on our bikes! We meet up at our hotel in the afternoon. It's set in the picturesque Kwa-Zulu Natal midlands in the Fort Nottingham area. Yes, there is an actual fort in the area and it has been turned into a museum, its well worth a visit to learn about the local history.

The area is considered to be one of the most scenic in South Africa and has some amazing gravel roads that we will be riding down and exploring on our motorcycles.

Very happy with all aspects of the tour. Time on bike was therapy on two wheels- thoroughly enjoyed myself. Excellent forethought and planning with safety aspects at the forefront. Good alternative plan for rain day situation and/or unexpected delays. Well done SA Adventure team!

Totally professional and superbly organised with excellent safety and backup services in place.

Learnt new skills and met new friends and had so much fun.

Cannot fault the tour and would highly recommend it.

The fact that this was my 5th tour with Tim Skelton and the SA Adventure crew, says it all.

I've done a few motorcycle tours with SA Adventure and I've never come away unsatisfied with the way they run their operation, from safety to good accommodation and food.

I have learnt so much over these motorcycle trips.
